To keep pace with the changing health care environment and build a healthier future for our children, Nemours has embarked on a multi-phase expansion to create ! a children’s hospital like no other in the region. Upon comp! letion in June 2014, the hospital will include private patient rooms, a new Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and a new expanded Emergency Department.
The KidsHealth On-Call telephone nurse triage unit provides patients with telephone access to a highly skilled and trained registered nurse during hours when the Nemours primary care offices are closed.
Job functions include:
Accurately assesses each patient's condition by actively listening to callers and asking probative questions. Identifies emergent situations and effectively transfers life-threatening calls to appropriate agencies per protocol.
Provides appropriate and courteous telephone advice, including plan of care and patient education, to callers according to approved protocols.
Appropriately and accurately documents initial and ongoing telephone conversations with documentation being completed immediately after the call ends.
Places outbound follow-up calls to ca! regivers as needed.
Accurately communicates information to physician on call as needed either over the telephone or by routing the necessary information to the physician through Epic.
Meets unit expectations for performance-based on-unit competencies and staff meeting attendance.
Must be able to work independently and to make critical decisions autonomously as this is a complete work-at-home position after completion of orientation.
Requirements
Candidate should possess excellent communication and listening skills and the ability to multitask, make time-sensitive decisions, and function well independently.
Current PA and DE nursing license or ability for license reciprocity in these states.
RN required; BSN preferred.
3-5 years pediatric experience; nurse triage or primary care nursing experience a plus.
Bilingual, Spanish-speaking skills are a plus.
Experience with electronic medical ! records (EMR) is a plus.
This is a part-time RN position with ! benefits.
Work hours: Primarily every other weekend evening shift and weekday evenings shifts on alternating weeks (e.g., 4:30pm - 10:30pm or 5:00pm - 10:30pm 4 days/week plus 1 Sunday evening). In a two-week pay cycle, you will work 4 days in 1 week and 3 days in the other week, for a total of 40 hours in a 2-week pay period. The position will require some occasional flexibility to cover weekend days and overnights when necessary. Rotating holiday coverage is required.
