Position Summary: As a member of the Assertive Community
Treatment Team the Psychiatrist is qualified in the
mental health profession, and possesses the clinical
skills and exper! ience to assess, plan, develop,
coordinate and provide psychiatric treatment, and
rehabilitation for adults with severe and persistent
mental illness. The psychiatrist works in conjunction
with the Team leaders, team members and state director.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the Development of comprehensive goal
plans in conjunction with individuals and family
members.
  • Participate in the Development of, individual’s
treatment plans in collaboration with the Treatment
Team.
  • Provide individual medication orders, prescriptions,
medication management, supportive therapy,
psychotherapy and symptom management ensuring that
immediate changes in the treatment plan are made, as
necessary.
  • Provides MD supervision to the nurses, providing
them with direction and consultation regarding
prescription, medication ord! ers, including lab
orders, and medication management.

  • Participates in the professional development of the
team as it relates to symptom and medication
management.
  • Act as a liaison and consult with hospitals,
community agencies and families to maintain
coordination in the treatment process.
  • Educate and support individual’s families and
advocate for individual’s rights and preferences
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of the following
areas:
Ø Family structure and relationships
Ø Psychiatric history
Ø Mental status
Ø Any history of drug and/or alcohol use
Ø Social development and functioning
Ø Daily living activities
Ø Diagnosis of physical and dental health history
  • Document individual’s progress while maintaining a
permanent record of individual’s activity in
accordance with policies and regulations.
  • Provide treatment, rehabilitation and su! pport
services in conjunction with other F/ACT team
members and with collaboration from staff with
specialty training.
  • Provide on call crisis intervention as required.
  • Participate in daily organizational staff meetings
and treatment planning meetings.
  • Perform other related duties as required or
assigned.
  • Participate in cross training with other specialists
as deemed necessary by supervisor.
Psychiatric Treatment and Dual Diagnosis Substance Abuse
Services
  • Provide ongoing assessments of the individual’s
mental illness and symptoms, as well as responses to
treatment,
  • Provide ongoing symptom education to enable
individuals to identify their mental illness
symptoms.
  • Provide direct clinical services, including
supportive therapy and psychotherapy to individuals
on a one to one, group and ! family basis to teach
behavioral symptom management techniques to alleviate and manage symptoms not reduced with
medication and to promote personal growth and
development by assisting individuals to adapt and to
cope with internal and external stress.

Job Requirements:
  • MD or DO in DE
  • Board Eligible or Board Certified in Psychiatry.
  • Must have successfully completed approved Psychiatry
Residency.
Position is part time with option to go FT later in the
year.
