The newly established role of the Career Coordinator will provide career and vocational support to workforce and self-pay students. This position is responsible for collaborating with employers and other organizations to identify graduates/solutions that meet the employer’s needs as well as developing, nurturing, and monitoring relationships with these organizations with the goal of continuing opportunities for students/graduates. The coordinator identifies potential sites and connects students/graduates to these sites for the purpose of obtaining the hands-on practice necessary to gain certification in their chosen field and develops strong working relationships with these sites. The coordinator is responsible for providing career/employment guidance to students and graduates as they prepare for their careers, including overseeing the Career Coach program that involves resume, cover letter, networking, marketing, and other job attainment skills. The goal is to match our education to the needs of our clients (students) to achieve the desired outcome (generally employment).
Responsibilities:
- Provide appropriate, comprehensive, and encouraging career planning services to students using effective communication techniques with various modes of technology;
- Build strong relationships with local and regional employers located where our workforce activities occur;
- Identify employment opportunities for students and alumni;
- Identify sites for students/graduates to obtain practical experience necessary to obtain certification (such as CPT);
- Assist students with the career certification scheduling and follow up, including determining student/graduate is academically prepared to sit for certification;
- Develop and implement strategies to achieve graduate employment goals established by workforce agencies;
- Manage the Career Coach program, including working with students/graduates to develop resumes, cover letters, networking skills, marketing skills, etc.;
- Conduct regular employment skill training/workshops online;
- Respond to students, graduates, alumni, employers, and other stakeholders in a timely manner;
- Actively engage in industry-related organizations/events to identify potential employers;
- Routinely review and report on industry and employment trends in workforce regions;
- Review and report on graduate survey results and develop appropriate strategies to assist graduates;
- Maintain contact with graduates as appropriate to fulfill job responsibilities;
- Use SIS and CRM to track student/graduate/employer/partner needs, progress, and status;
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Demonstrated knowledge of working with employers and students to determine their needs
- Demonstrated customer service skills
- Demonstrated soft sales-type experience
- Greatly prefer at 3-5 years’ years of experience in education career coordination role
- Greatly prefer demonstrated experience in working in higher education
- Prefer education equivalent of associate’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university in a field related to career counseling and guidance
- Self-directed and driven with an ability to work autonomously and engage potential clients, ongoing clients and other members of the team as needed
