This VA Medical Center, Wilmington, Delaware is recruiting for a Marriage and Family Therapist to work in the Behavioral Health Services. The Marriage and Family Therapist provides a complete range of marriage and family therapy services to help keep more families together.

Subject to an electronic credentialing process DUTIES:
Incumbent functions as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in the General Mental Health Clinic under the guidance of the! Behavioral Health Service Chief and direct administrative supervision of Psychology Service Chief.

Incumbent independently conducts thorough clinical assessments with focus on identifying risk factors and the psychosocial needs of Veterans and their identified significant others. Incumbent develops treatment plans indicating utilization of empirically based interventions and appropriate and relevant clinical practices in collaboration with the interdisciplinary treatment team in Behavioral Health Service at the Wilmington VA Medical Center, Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) and Vet Centers.

The position will provide after hours and weekend services, as necessitated by Veterans and families.

Incumbent establishes and maintains effective therapeutic relationships with Veterans and their families and demonstrates advanced skill in independently providing individual, couples, family, and/or group therapy to Veterans and their significant oth! ers. Specific clinical/therapeutic tasks of the Marriage and Family The! rapist include but are not limited to: Provide Evidence Based Practices (EBP) for couples and families, utilizing Tele-mental Health (TMH) in the delivery of services, conducting family therapy assessments, Conducting biopsychosocial assessments, providing therapy services to clients and their families with difficult and complex problems of social, emotional and vocational adjustment, and facilitate family counseling groups

Serves as clinical case manager for clients as needed during the treatment process, assisting clients with applications for veterans' benefits and other VA documents and forms, and conduct follow-up of clients by telephone and/or mail. Develops and maintains appropriate family referral sources and referring veterans and family members to appropriate resources.

Incumbent provides readjustment counseling in individual, conjoint, family and group therapy sessions with Veterans and family members with a focus on Post Traumatic Stress Disord! er (PTSD) and related psychological difficulties, marital and family issues, substance abuse, employment, military sexual trauma, homelessness, bereavement, and other issues impacting a Veteran's quality of life.

Incumbent is knowledgeable of crisis intervention strategies and the protocol for addressing medical and/ or psychiatric emergencies.

Incumbent will conduct outreach to identify program eligible Veterans and their family members, promote the use of the Vet Center Services and present educational programs about Combat Veterans in the Department of Veterans Affairs and Readjustment Counseling Services. The incumbent is recognized as highly knowledgeable and skilled in the treatment of families of combat veterans and plays a key role in the total mental health program, serving as a consultant to nurses, social workers, psychologists, and physicians.

Incumbent independently provides consultation services to other staff regarding the psychosoc! ial needs of Veterans and their families and the impact of psychosocial! problems on health care and adherence to treatment plan within his/her scope of practice.

Incumbent has ability to evaluate his/her own practice through professional peer review, case conferences and other organizational means.

Incumbent has ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with people from varied backgrounds.

Incumbent has working knowledge and skill in the use of word processing, data management, and other computer software, as well as, ability to learn and utilize VHA software program. Incumbent has ability to develop skill and knowledge in the use of VA provided tele-health equipment and is responsible for coordinating appointments with Veterans, their families, and support staff across sites.

Incumbent completes timely, accurate, and comprehensive documentation in the client's VA medical record for all visits with the Veteran, his/her family, and/or significant others.

Incumbent is knowledgeab! le of all mandated reporting laws.

Incumbent is knowledgeable of available VA and community resources and will assist Veterans and/or their families in connecting with appropriate and needed resources/services.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
U.S. citizenship.
Must hold a Masters Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from a program approved by the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education (COAMFTE) or have graduated from a nationally accredited program conferring a comparable mental health degree as specified in the qualification standards of those disciplines (Social Work, Psychiatric Nursing, Psychology, and Psychiatry). All additional course work taken to be accepted for Marriage Family Therapy licensure must come from a nationally accredited program in one of the above areas.
Licensure: Persons hired or reassigned to Marriage and Family Therapist positions must be licensed or! certified by a state to independently practice Marriage and Family The! rapy at the master's degree level.
College Transcripts required.

SPEICALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR GS-11 LEVEL: Requires the completion of a minimum of one year of post-Masters degree professional experience in the field of health care Marriage and Family Therapy experience in a clinical setting (VA or non- VA experience) and licensure in a state independent practice level.

SUBSTITUTING EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE AT THE GS-11 LEVEL: A doctoral degree in Marriage and Family Therapy or comparable degree in mental health from an accredited training program may be substituted for the required 1 year of professional marriage and family therapy experience in a clinical setting. In addition , the candidate must be licensed to practice at the independent level.
