To keep pace with the changing health care environment and build a healthier future for our children, Nemours has embarked on a multi-phase expansion to create a children's hospital like no other in the region. Upon completion ! in June 2014, the hospital will include private patient rooms,! a new Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, and a new expanded Emergency Department.
The Nemours Cardiac Center delivers superior care to infants, children and young adults with heart disease both acquired and congenital. Our facilities include an operating room used exclusively for cardiac patients and a new state of the art catheterization and electrophysiology suite.Our 13 bed telemetry and 3 bed step down units provide first rate care in a family focused environment. Our outpatient clinic serves the needs of the cardiac patients in the community. The multidisciplinary cardiac team is comprised of specially trained surgeons, physicians, nurses, social workers, respiratory therapists, dietician and child life specialists, as well as consultation with hospital-wide disciplines.
The team mission is to provide paramount service to cardiac patients and their familiesThis position is responsible for:
A registered nurse with responsibility to assist the Nurse Ma! nager and staff nurse in ensuring compassionate, safe, quality care for patients and families; managing and influencing clinical nursing practice, the interdisciplinary team, and the environment in which care is provided. Acts as resource, role model, and clinical leader for the patient care team. Facilitates service excellence, quality, and patient safety. Enacts Nemours Standards of Behavior (reference document)
II. Essential Functions - These responsibilities are of utmost importance and the department can't function without them. No more than 8 to 10.
1. The Assistant Nurse Manager provides direct patient care including patient assignment as appropriate:
a. Collects patient health data, and analyzes data to determine nursing diagnoses.
b. Utilize data to assist in the development of an interdisciplinary, relevant plan of care for child and family.
c. Implements appropriate interventions.
d. Identifies individualized outcomes for child a! nd family.
e. Provides an on-going evaluation of child and family's! progress toward attainment of outcomes.
2. The Assistant Nurse Manager provides and supervises care guided by the Professional Code of Ethics for Nurses.
a. Ensures assessments, recommendations and actions are provided in an ethical manner.
b. Serves as patient advocate, maintaining an atmosphere of family-centered care, positively influencing consumer satisfaction.
c. Approaches patient care team interactions with fairness, consistency and objectivity, and supportive of a culture that enhances nursing performance, job satisfaction and patient care team retention.
3. The Assistant Nurse Manager assists in systematically evaluating the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice:
a. Participates on interdisciplinary teams to evaluate clinical practice.
b. Utilizing the results of quality-of-care data, assists in implementing changes in clinical practice.
c. Assists in the development and implementation of policies, procedures and ! practice guidelines to improve quality of care.
d. Assures compliance with Hospital and departmental Dashboard goals.
e. Participates in departmental and hospital programs for Quality Improvement, identifying opportunities to improve services, making recommendations and implementing actions as appropriate and consistent with the goals of the Nemours Foundation.
4. The Assistant Nurse Manager demonstrates knowledge of current professional practice standards, laws, and regulations that affect the care of children and families:
a. Evaluates his/her own nursing practice in relation to professional practice standards and relevant statutes and regulations.
b. Seeks constructive feedback regarding own clinical practice.
c. Maintains proficiency and shares knowledge of developmental variances of patients across the life span.
d. Acquires and shares knowledge and skills appropriate to the care of children, families and adults and the practice setting! .
e. Recognizes and identifies own learning needs and responsibilit! y for continual development; strives to increase knowledge and skills through continuing education.
5. The Assistant Nurse Manager contributes to the professional development of peers, colleagues, and other health care providers:
a. Collaborates with Nurse Manager to evaluate, maintain and improve patient care team performance.
b. Supports the orientation process and continuing education of patient care team by partnering with the Nurse Manager, Nursing Education, and Advanced Practice Nurses (APN's).
c. Mentors patient care team.
d. Participates in the interview and selection process of patient care team members for the patient care unit.
e. In collaboration with Nurse Manager, provides counseling to improve patient care team members' performance.
f. Identifies clinical and educational needs of the patient care team.
g. Assesses patient care team strengths and weaknesses.
h. Assists the patient care team members to identify goals fo! r professional growth and encourages the care team to meet these goals.
i. Support professional Nurses participation in the Shared Governance Council structure.
6. The Assistant Nurse Manager works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to coordinate the management of patient care:
a. Collaborates with child, family and other healthcare providers in providing patient care.
b. Promotes open and effective interdepartmental and intradepartmental communications.
7. The Assistant Nurse Manager contributes to nursing and pediatric health care through the use of research methods and findings:
a. Participates in developing evidence-based practice by participating in and involving the patient care team in evaluative research activities.
b. Facilitates the dissemination of research findings and integration of evidence-based guidelines into clinical practice.
c. Maintains current knowledge of evidence based practice by reading profess! ional literature and searching appropriate national databases.
! 8. The Assistant Nurse Manager adheres to budgetary plans:
a. Ensures safety, effectiveness, quality and cost are planning and delivering patient care.
b. Assists Nurse Manager in developing budget and budget compliance.
c. Identifies and secures resources as necessary to maintain quality patient care.
d. Completes payroll bi-weekly if deemed appropriate.
9. The Assistant Nurse Manager assists the Nurse Manager in providing a professional work environment:
a. Assumes management responsibilities in absence of and as directed by Nurse Manager.
b. Actively participates in departmental activities and plan for promoting patient/family and employee satisfaction.
c. Monitors documentation of daily staffing; monitors documentation of admissions, discharges and transfers.
d. Monitors staffing schedules. Works with staffing coordinator and/or clinical nursing supervisor to ensure adequate staffing to meet patient care needs. May author! ize overtime or scheduling changes to fill shifts as necessary.
e. Effectively communicates unit issues and trends to co-workers and management team.
f. Facilitates and/or coordinates patient care team meetings, agendas, and minutes.
g. Serves as Clinical Nursing Supervisor on holidays on a rotational basis as needed.
10. The Assistant Nurse Manager maintains Service Excellence Standards:
a. Supports the mission, vision and values of Nemours for clinical leadership.
b. Meets or exceeds customer service expectations related to courtesy, consideration, communications, cooperation, and commitment.
Must be enrolled in a BSN program or have a BSN.
Minimum two years Pediatric experience, cardiac exp preferred.
Must have or be eligible for your Delaware Nursing License
Demonstrated successful coordination/management of projects and/or programs
Demonstrated excellence in communication skills.
