General Description: Wilmington Surgical Services located at the Wilmington Hospital campus is seeking a Student Nurse Extern to provide pre and post-operative Perianesthesia care to patients who will or have received anesthesia for surgical, gastroenterological, or interventional radiological procedures.
The student nurse selected for this position will rotate through the 3 phases of care that comprise the Perianesthesia Unit of Wilmington Surgical Services and serve in the role as a patient care technician under the direction and guidance of registered nurses. The phases of care include the processing and admissions phase, phase II recovery and discharge, and the 23 hours surgical observation phase for extended post â€"operative management.
Wilmington Surgical Services has been selected to relocate to the newly designed and expanded section of the Wilmington Hospital Expansion. The new environment promotes and supports staff development towards a versatile Perianesthesia! staffing unit. In addition to the duties of the patient care ! technician the student nurse will receive additional skills training for phlebotomy and computer entry that meets the needs of the units.
Hours of operation : Monday beginning at 0500 with admissions through Saturday when the 23 hour observation unit closes at 1530. The unit provides a variety of shift hours to meet the needs of the scheduled procedures and post-operative management. Weekends and holidays are per unit guidelines. Prefer student nurses who meet the established criteria.
