As one of the nation's premier pediatric health care systems, Nemours provides world-class clinical care in four states: Delaware, Florida, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Located in Wilmington, Delaware, the Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children offers intensive and acute inpatient and outpatient services covering more than 30 pediatric specialties. Ranked among the nation's best in pediatric specialty care by U.S. News & World Report , this world-renowned teaching hospital has served children from 42 states and 14 nations. Extending the world-class care of the Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital, Nemours duPont Pediatrics provides expert care for even more children across the Delaware Valley through community-based physician services and collaborative partnerships with health and hospital systems.

To keep pace with the! changing health care environment and build a healthier future! for our children, Nemours has embarked on a multi-phase expansion to create a children's hospital like no other in the region. Upon completion in June 2014, the hospital will include private patient rooms, a new Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and a new expanded Emergency Department.

This 22-bed unit has been designated as the Hematology/Oncology unit for the Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children. In order to properly care for patients with oncological disease processes, the unit is equipped with one isolation room and four single-patient rooms. This unit also provides patient care for patients requiring services from other medical and surgical pediatric subspecialties that include endocrinology, neurology and neurosurgery, and otolaryngology.

Patient care unit goals are to provide high-quality, high-value patient care. Patient and family needs are assessed, interventions provided and outcomes evaluated based on written departmental policies and pr! ocedures, as well as multidisciplinary plans of care. In order to provide the highest quality of care, our nursing staff have attained competency in chemotherapy/biotherapy administration. Staff are also supported in attaining specialty certification.

Each patient room is equipped with state-of the-art cardio-respiratory bedside monitoring and computers that enable the health care team to access a patient's electronic medical record. These computers are also used in bar-coding administration of medications. Bar-coding ensures patient safety by verifying that the correct medication is given to the appropriate child.

Staff on 3C North are committed to delivering the most comprehensive care possible. This includes educating and providing hands-on training to patients' families to ensure that caregivers are able to comfortably and confidently handle any home medical care that may be necessary. At each patient bedside, there is an entertainment and education TV! system that helps nurses to provide this education.
