Location: Wilmington, Delaware

As a member of the anesthesia care team, the CRNA will provide anesthesia care appropriate to the neonatal, pediatric, adolescent and occasional adult population. The CRNA will provide services as assigned in both operative and non-operative anesthesia locations at the Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children; the Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children Surgery Centers at Bryn Mawr, PA and Deptford, NJ; and the Christiana Care Health System Operating Room for NICU S urgical Cases. Provide anesthesia call coverage at the Alfred I. DuPont Hospital for Children as needed.

In coordination with a staff anesthesiologist, safely administer anesthesia and patient care during the perioperative period, including:


  • perform a preanesthetic assessment and evaluation of the patient, including requesting consultations and diagnostic studies; selecting, obtaining, ordering, and administering preanesthetic medications and fluids; and obtaining informed consent for anesthesia.
  • develop and implement an anesthetic plan.
  • initiate the appropriate anesthetic technique that may include general, regional, local and sedation.
  • select, apply and insert appropriate non-invasive and invasive monitoring modalities for continuous evaluation of the patient’s physical status.
  • select, obtain, and administer the anesthetics, adjuvant and accessory drugs, and fluids necessary to manage the anesthetic.
  • manage a patient’s airway and pulmonary status using current practice modalities.
  • facilitate emergence and recovery from anesthesia by selecting, obtaining, ordering, and administering medications, fluids, and ventilatory support.
  • Recognize and take appropriate action for abnormal or untoward patient responses during anesthesia care; respond to emergency situations by providing airway management, administration of emergency fluids and drugs, and using basic or advanced cardiac life support techniques.
  • discharge the patient from the post-anesthesia care area and provide post-anesthesia follow-up evaluation and care as appropriate.
  • implement acute and chronic pain management modalities.

Competently use department and other surgical suite equipment and supplies.

Assist in coordination and maintenance of systems for storage, maintenance, and use of department equipment and supplies.

Appropriately document pertin ent information on electronic and other patient records; maintain timely and accurate anesthetic records. When required to use written records, ensure that they are neat and legible.

Effectively communicate with patients, families, and colleagues and provide appropriate information in a timely fashion.

In collaboration with anesthesiologists, monitor and evaluate the quality of patient care.

Using Nemours Standards of Behavior, work collaboratively and respectfully with the surgical team and other operating room personnel and all organizational colleagues.

Teach and mentor all trainees that rotate through the Anesthesia Department.

Participate in research activities as requested or appropriate.

Additional Responsibilities:

Attend and participate appropriately in department meetings and activities. All other duties as assigned, as may be assigned from time to time by supervisor. Maintain a continuing program of professio nal development.

Requirements:

Graduate of accredited school of nursing.

Graduate of an approved program of nurse anesthesia accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs.

Pennsylvania Nursing license; New Jersey Nursing and APRN licenses;

Current BLS, PALS and ACLS certification
